Illustrating our Ideas...

In writing we talked about how the ideas in your head can be turned into illustrations that then help you to write a story. We reread the wordless picture book Good Dog Carl by Alexandra Day as an example of how authors tell stories just through pictures.  The class learned that as authors THEY could just make a picture and that helps tell a story.  After illustrating their writing idea, they shared their work, and the story in their head, with a buddy...

Reading Around the Room

Today the students picked a quiet spot in the room to read.  They could go anywhere they wanted as long as their choices didn't affect their reading or the reading of those around them.  The students did an awesome job! Check out these readers:

Today we started talking about the three ways to read...

1.  Read the pictures.

2.  Read the words.

3.  Re-tell the story.

Our Hopes and Dreams for Second Grade...

Today we began working on creating our class 'constitution'.  This starts with the class drawing and and sharing their Hopes and Dreams for their year at Sappington. Next, we will talk about how to make sure that we all help each other to make sure our hopes and dreams come true. They will come up with a HUGE list of rules that all start with 'don't...' and we will turn them all around to become statements that say what we WANT our friends to do.  Eventually (and every year this happens) we end up with four rules or expectations.  Stay tuned to find out what they are...

Meet The Teacher Night

Hooray! All of my new second grade friends came! I was so fortunate to be able to meet all of the kids and their families tonight. Thank you all for coming and taking the time to fill out alllllllllll of those forms.   We are going to have a great year...I'm looking forward to getting started!

Back to School!

It's hard to believe that the summer break is winding down and we are about to jump into another school year. It goes so quickly!  I am really excited to meet all of my new students!
